FAQS – Hair
Q:
Why does Cottonwood have different designer price-levels?
A:
Only 1 in 100 beauty school graduates survive 5 years in our demanding industry. We are delighted and proud to reward our designers for their persistent efforts and professional drive. Like other professionals, with advanced training and growing client demand, our designers EARN price increases.
Q:
How are price-levels determined?
A:
Though already licensed and board-certified, Cottonwood requires every new hire to train and test-out of our own intense 12-month education program before they advance to our salon-floor. All designers are trained alike and our education program is now duplicated throughout the U.S. The results of their training, continued educational achievements, and client demand, are the determining factors of our price structure.
Q:
How will I know if and when my designer is promoted to a higher level?
A:
When a designer advances to the next "level", Cottonwood notifies our clients via email. (Just sign up on our web-site.) Our existing clients have a 3-month grace period (from the time of emailing), before new prices are in effect. Should you wish to stay at your current price level, you may trust us to match you perfectly with another talented designer on our team of experts…..who is just as talented and sweet!
Q:
If I want to stay at the same price level, would that be uncomfortable for me and my former designer when I return to the salon?
A:
Absolutely not! We work together as a TEAM. We recognize that the correct staff-client match is paramount and we encourage our guests to try any or all of our team members, without hesitation. If you feel you would be more comfortable or better served by another member of our staff, just let us know. We love sharing services and getting to know all of our clients! Our goal is to make you happy! At any level, you can be assured of superior technical skills with a personal touch to "make your day".
Q:
What if I don't like the results of my hair service?
A:
If you are not completely satisfied with your hair service simply call us within a day or two – we'll be happy to make the necessary and complimentary technical adjustments. It is our goal to make you happy...and make Cottonwood your salon HOME.
FAQS – Skincare
Q:
How do I know which facial to get?
A:
Leave it to us! Simply book a customized "Cottonwood Facial". Your skincare therapist will analyze your skin and recommend the perfect facial for your skin type.
Q:
Do men get facials?
A:
Oh my goodness YES !!! (We have TONS of male clients that get facials every week!) Good skincare is essential for men and women! It promotes healthy tissue and collagen regeneration, helps with ingrown hairs and better circulation……and it's a great way to relax and de-stress! Our male clients LOVE our facials and swear they are as relaxing as a massage! Facials include shoulder, neck, hand and arm massage.(They're hooked!)
Q:
Why would my Skincare Therapist recommend a moisturizer when I have super-oily skin?
A:
Oil is NOT moisture! Oily clients have a tendency to "over-cleanse" their skin without using a moisturizer. The newly-cleansed skin sends a message to the brain saying that it's very DRY, so the brain sends a command to the skin to lubricate…..producing more OIL, because skin CAN'T produce moisture. Using the perfect moisturizer can actually reduce oil production and diminish breakouts!
Q:
Why should I maintain a "homecare regime"?
A:
A consistent skincare program is absolutely essential to maintain and preserve beautiful skin. Your skincare therapist can help you improve and enhance the quality of your skin with the most effective products and easy to follow instructions.
Q:
If I take good care of my skin at home, why do I need regular facials?
A:
Professional facials are like regular auto-maintenance, they tune up your skin at essential intervals. As we age, our skincare-needs change. (Our skin and bodies completely change every 5-6 years; so what may have worked for us in the past may not be working as effectively now.) Cottonwood uses only the finest professional products in our spa facials, and many are not available for the retail market. A monthly facial is not only an effective "tune up"…..but as relaxing and stress-relieving as a massage!
Q:
Does Cottonwood offer discounts for regular facial clients?
A:
Absolutely! We offer Facial Series Packages. Six facials for the price of five!
FAQS – Waxing
Q:
How much does it cost?
A:
Cost is usually determined by the amount of time necessary to perform the service. Our consultations are free, simply call to schedule a consultation appointment.
Q:
Why do I need a free Consultation?
A:
Some clients have more body hair, especially men. It may be very long or thick. Your hair may need to be trimmed first, which takes much longer. You may even be advised to shave it all off and come back in 4 weeks because it would be much easier and less expensive. These are all issues that will be covered in your complimentary consultation. It's all about making you comfortable and giving you the best possible service.
Q:
How long will it take?
A:
A first-time wax will take longer than an area that is waxed every 4 weeks.
Q:
What are the benefits of waxing?
A:
Waxing damages the hair follicle so that after about the 5th wax you will notice that you will have less new growth and it will be finer. Waxing also removes the hair from the root, so regrowth takes much longer to surface.
Q:
How often do I need to wax?
A:
You need to wax approximately every 4 weeks. If you have been shaving, the hair needs to grow out long enough for the wax to "adhere" to the hair. A good rule of thumb is about ¼" which is usually about 4 weeks.
Q:
After my first wax I had new growth after only a week, why?
A:
It will take 4-6 sessions for the hair to all reach the same growing stage, so you will feel "stubbly" sooner when you first start waxing.
Q:
Will I break-out?
A:
Some people are more prone to breakouts than others particularly on the lip, over the brow, and the back. It is important for you to maintain your home care, and plan your sessions for every 4 weeks so your skin will get used to the waxing and therefore be less likely to get irritations.
Q:
Is there any reason I shouldn't wax?
A:
You should NOT wax if you are taking blood thinners, oral or topical acne medications or using over the counter acne meds. Skin that is being treated with Retin A, Renova or other strong exfoliates should avoid waxing. Also avoid waxing if you have sunburn.
Q:
What if I tan?
A:
You should avoid waxing for 24 hours if you have tanned and NEVER tan freshly waxed skin.
Q:
What is Brazilian Waxing?
A:
A "Brazilian Wax" is when all hair is removed from the genital and anal areas.
Q:
Do both men and women get Brazilians?
A:
Absolutely! We perform over 200 Brazilians a month for athletes, weight-lifters, models, swimmers, and soccer moms!
Q:
What will I need to do for home care?
A:
To get your best results from waxing you need to purchase a Loofah Mitt. "Scrubbies" or "loofah-sponges" often don't dry out completely and grow bacteria that can cause breakouts and rashes. You will need De-Tox Bath Gel to scrub your waxed areas, (of the body, not the face), every day to keep your skin exfoliated. If you get ingrown-hairs, you should also use Tend Skin every day right after your shower, (except the day you are waxed).
FAQS – Massage
Q:
What is the difference in various massage styles?
A:
- Swedish Massage is a very relaxing massage using five styles of long, flowingstrokes to calm and de-stress.
- Deep Tissue Massage (also referred to as Trigger or Pressure Point), involves applying manual pressure to specific points, referring pain release to various parts of the body.
- Thai Massage originated in India over 2500 years ago. The technique combines massage with yoga-like positions emphasizing stretching and acupressure. With Thai Massage the client wears lose-fitting yoga-type clothing.
- Sports Massage focuses on specific areas of the body that require pain or strain therapy, and areas of injury or rehabilitation therapy.
- Pre-Natal Massage is a gentle technique used to relieve stress, swelling, back strain and poor circulation during pregnancy. Massage should not be performed during the first trimester.
- Foot Reflexology involves massaging, squeezing or pushing parts of the feet with the goal of encouraging health throughout the body. This theory is based on the energy flow of "meridians" in the body, and is considered pseudoscientific.
Q:
What is the difference in a massage therapist and a "master" massage therapist ?
A:
Cottonwood employs only the most superior massage therapists in the state. Master Therapists have achieved elevated skills and high client demand.
Q:
Do I undress completely?
A:
We encourage our clients to undress to their own comfort level, though most of our clients undress completely. You will have a wonderfully luxurious robe to wear to our spa lounge, where you may enjoy a relaxing glass of wine or herb tea before your therapist escorts you to your treatment cabin.
Q:
Will I be exposed in any way when getting on and off the massage table or during my massage?
A:
We practice the highest standards of professional draping techniques to assure the utmost in professional ethics. Your therapist will ask you a few questions regarding health issues and any areas of concern; then leave the treatment cabin while you remove your robe and slip under the sheets of your massage table. After knocking, your therapist will re-enter the cabin to begin your service. Only the specific area being massaged will be exposed at any given time, then re-draped. When finished, your therapist will leave the treatment cabin, allowing you to robe up and retire to the locker-rooms or relax in one of our spa lounges.
